The League of Crafty Guitarists is a small, mobile and independent performance ensemble representing the work of Guitar Craft and The Guitar Circle. The personnel changes in response to the needs of each project: time, place and circumstance, usually featuring 7 to 15 guitarists from around the world.
Founded in 1985 by Robert Fripp — guitarist, composer, producer, co-founder of King Crimson, contributor/collaborator with Brian Eno, David Bowie, David Sylvian and Peter Gabriel – The LCG repertoire includes original compositions, Guitar Craft and selected classics from world music, and Circulations: group-improvised compositions that embody The LCG’s collaborative and experimental essence. The tuning used is the Guitar Craft pentatonic tuning, the New Standard Tuning. This offers a range of harmonic and melodic possibilities that extend the range of conventional tuning.
The League of Crafty Guitarists toured on three continents from 1985 to 1991; Europe, the United States and Latin America in 2002; collaborated with Robert Fripp’s live Soundscapes performances in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Argentina and the US between 2006 and 2009; and took part in multidisciplinary performances with the Lucia and Valentina Fusari Dance Company of Mendoza in 2003 and 2015.
The League Of Crafty Guitarists returned in December 2024 for the world premiere of “The Wine of Silence” alongside the Mendoza Philharmonic Orchestra and the Neuquén Symphony Orchestra.
